i enjoy blending Abstract Expressionist painting in to my environment. A recent body of work uses my fabric designs to create 3 dimensional "sculpted paintings." The textures, loops and crevices create interesting shapes of fluidity and movement. The fabric is repurposed from a previous body of work where I photographed the fabric in outdoor environmental settings. As soon as it was photographed, I dismantled it and so the only evidence of it ever existing is in the photos. When seeking a permit to do this, I have been turned down (city of Santa Rosa) so from now on I will sneak in to do my dirty deeds and get out quickly before anyone notices.
b. 1953 in Youngstown, OH. Live in Sonoma County, CA. I work in a shared aRtists' compound of approximately 50 aRtists at The Studios, Santa Rosa in WWII barracks buildings (former Naval Auxiliary Landing Field Santa Rosa). I studied for 6 years with Josef Schützenhöfer (Viennese) with strong influences of German abstract expressionists, Jugendstil, Dada and 19th century classical music and literature. Education: 1 year at Modeschule Hetzendorf, Vienna, B.S. History (University NY (Regents), BFA Old DominionUniversity and MA Ed, Geo. Washington University.
After serving U.S. Navy for 24 years I earned a second undergraduate degree (BFA) using G.I. Bill Benefits and returned to aRt full time. The Navy experience informed my aRt in the sense that I appreciate serving a purpose higher than myself. I learned patience, discipline, the importance of integrity and served in several leadership roles.
