Current and Ongoing - Portraiture and Abstract

Working as a portrait artist I produce fantasy portraiture in a realistic style, with a bit of the surreal I incorporate personal elements into each portrait - whether it is a commissioned piece for a client or an homage to someone who has inspired me. These might be "The Day of the Dead", a song or a movie, a pet portrait of a beloved animal or a particular interest/trait the human subject has...

My abstract work is mostly environmental - landscapes, sunrises, oceans and wherever nature inspires me. I like to use a mostly palette knife in these works, applying thick and chunky impressions. My pet portraits can also be abstracted - and I may pursue some human abstracted paintings in the future...

Nicknamed by my Grandma "Patrushka", I grew up in Southern California and I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years. I became interested in art as a young girl – absorbing pop culture through album covers, movies, music, comic books and art history - and it has been my passion, occupation and "hobby" ever since.. I've worked in almost all media and have created an eclectic portfolio.

Themes for my art include: portraiture, abandoned places, geishas, social and environmental concerns, the Day of the Dead and life’s transitory nature. Other inspirations include vintage items, pop culture, mythology, music, fashion, wildlife and our natural world. Especially the yin and yang of life – the contrast of good and evil, the symbolism and outcomes of these juxtapositions.
