Novato, CA

I use vintage objects and materials and either transform them, or restore them. I show my work in local fairs and post products on my website. I like working in collage to make cards and boxes, cutting up leather jackets and making bags, working with street artists with graffiti panels on canvas I convert into totes, restore mid century lamps and artistically embellish or restore furniture.

I've been an interior designer for restaurants and nightclubs, hotels and residences for over 30 years. I still enjoy doing restaurants and recently completed Abrazo in San Francisco. My passion is to use what exists and translate changes in modern ways. I love raw materials and breaking rules that have traditionally been used in the interior design and construction trades. Broken auto glass panels as kitchen backsplash...and that kind of thing.

My remodeling of furniture began with a furniture gallery I opened in a large warehouse in Coconut Grove, Florida where my staff and I transformed common hotel furniture, lamps, and accessories with the merger of various artists and our full time painting crew. Antares in Miami was successful for over twelve years with renowned events and artist openings until 1998 when I came back to my home in the SF Bay area. I continued to design restaurants, and raise my two daughters..

Presently I split my time between interior design consulting for residences, for restaurants and retail establishments. I also build re-use and up-cycled material products. You can see my interior design projects by visiting my website: carolynrobbins.com
