The Technique: Chopstick Drip Painting. I drip oil base enamel paint onto hand crafted wooden panels. The Style: Figurative Action Painting.
After a lifetime of art study, including a long period of disenchantment, I found myself earning wages as a commercial painter. Subsequently, I began experimenting with oil base enamel paint in an artistic fashion. Beginning, of course, with Abstract Expressionism. The job as a painter gave me an endless supply of paint and wood that I used for practice and experimentation. It was through these experiments and a hunger to create and express, after nearly a decade of artistic dormancy, that the Chopstick Drip method evolved and BUCHANART was conceived.
It was 2003 in Long Beach California. I decided at that time, that I did not want to live the next twenty years as I had lived the last twenty years.
A year later, I began selling paintings at the local 2nd Saturday art walk. As the years went by, I became more confident in my skills. I took on other local art walks, weekend farmer's markets, art fairs and the like. I also entered contests and exhibited my paintings in museums and art galleries. Twelve years after selling my first painting, I was able to quit my day job and pursue art on a full time, professional basis. exhibiting in art galleries, museums and curated art festivals across the country. Currently, I am represented by Riverside Studios in Truckee California.
