One-time opportunity offered by visiting artists from Italy: Special guest artists from the 50 Faces exhibit of the Scuola Mosaicisti in Friuili, Italy lead this one-time class.

Now is your chance to learn from contemporary mosaic masters. Explore the unique elements of color theory in contemporary mosaic-making  in this 2-day intensive class. You will learn the unique approach to color theory in mosaics, how this contrasts with use of color in other media, and apply what you learn to create your own mosaic using smalti (hand-cut glass). Smalti is used by the contemporary mosaic masters including the artists of the upcoming 50 Faces mosaic exhibit. This is the finest mosaic-making material, and creates a distinct look and feel from ceramic tile. View examples of how mosaic art has evolved from Roman through Byzantine and Contemporary styles while creating your own art piece that can be displayed flat or mounted on a wall.  No mosaic experience is required. Class size is limited.

Denise Toson and Debora Franco graduated from the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli and are invited guest artists of Marin MOCA. Their work is featured in the 50 FACES exhibit at Marin MOCA. September 21, 2019 - November 10, 2019.

Members $200;  Non-members $230
