This ceramics workshop will focus on hand building techniques working with clay. We will begin with the three basic methods: coil building, pinching, and slab work. Each project will focus on a method and build up to work with the next.
We will then begin working with glazes, which will allow time for firings in between projects. After learning the basics of working with slabs, coils, and the pinch method we will make the basic bowl and cup. From there you will combine your newfound skills to make a box, and lastly you will work in sculpture.
Jazmin specializes in realism and the workshop will end with a portrait project where students will learn to sculpt the features of the face. She will show you her own personal methods of what she’s learned over the years in her own practice to bring out a form of realism into your work. Her goal is for her students is to walk away from this workshop with a tool belt of skills that will allow them to work and create from their home or studio.
Jazmin Harrington is a ceramic sculpture artist from Oakland. She graduated from San Francisco State with a BA in Studio Art and Education. She has been playing with clay for six years and loves every minute of it.
