Celebrate your authentic self in abstract figurative art painting. In this two-day workshop, artists Gail Galli and Carol LaBranche will discuss the fredom of contemporary abstract painting practices and guide you toward creating abstract figurative works that reflect your own unique mark-making.
They will demonstrate a multiple-stage process. On the first day you will explore the broad field of successful abstract figurative works, focusing on the figure in relationship to texture, rhythm, and composition. The instructors will explain the value of play in developing one's authentic voice in art-making and you will begin to layer your artwork.
On the second day you will continut to develop your layers, cleaning and defining the composition and figure, simplifying and abstracting elements, and adding touches that encourage quiet conversations. The instructors will discuss varnishes, waxing, and finishing the surface. At 2:30 you will complete the day with a group critique.
Gail Galli received a degree in Interior Design from the University of Oregon and pursued a career in commercial Interior Design as well as working as an Art Consultant. She developed a love of the local landscape after moving to the Bay Area and was inspired to capture it in her work. Captivated by color, she works in pastels, acrylics, oils, printmaking, and collage.
Carol LaBranche holds a B.A. in Fashion Design from Mount Mary University, Milwaukee. She is a contemporary artist and workshop facilitator in the fields of painting, drawing, collage, multi-media, and fashion. Her workshops focus on incorporating history, contemporary ideas, and personal choices in order to help participants create authentic art-making and lifestyle choices.

Should you cancel less than one (1) week prior to a class or workshop begins, you will not receive a refund of any portion of your registration fee. There are no refunds for individual classes that are missed within a monthly series.
