Hand paint and decorate a Mexican sugar skull steeped in the rich cultural history of Mexico.
Brief Historical Lecture: Summary of the origin of sugar art in Italian culture and how this unique media was introduced to native people of North America.
Demonstration: Learn how to make a colorful piece of art influenced by Mexican culture. You will learn the ingredients and application techniques necessary to decorate a sugar skull. You will also learn how to make your own simple molds out of silicon.
Hand Decorate a Sugar Skull: Roll up your sleeves and decorate your own unique work. Premade sugar skulls and all decorations will be provided for this workshop.
Instructor: Diego Marcial Rios received his B.F.A. at the University of California, Berkeley. He has exhibited his work at the National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago; Sonoma Art Center; Expressions Art Gallery, Berkeley.
