Textured Nature Collage

Two Sundays, April 21 and April 28; 10am - 3:30pm

Instructor: Amanda Rose Hopkins

Make Foraged Fine Art: Create beautiful and unique textural paintings. Creating a textured painting surface using materials from nature offers the opportunity to engage with flora in an intimate and meditative manner. Using the earth and its elements as the foundation of artistic inspiration, texture and form, you will tap into Amanda’s vast collections of leaves, flowers, lichens and more.

Learn how to create a collage from natural materials, and how to incorporate this texture into your paintings with protective layers of gesso, ink and acrylic. Working with delicate nature finds can be challenging. Amanda will guide you in choosing the right adhesives and layering so your beautiful texture remains durable.

These techniques of adhering natural materials, layering, priming, painting and sealing are very unique. Students will be using various textures of soil, different types of leaves and dried flowers as well as lichens to create eco inspired compositions that draw on the glorious perfection of natural forms and the sensuous textures that can be found in nature.

April 21: Participants will adhere their natural forms to multiple painting supports and create a nature-filled textural composition.

April 28: Participants will seal, prime and paint the textured surface they created in the previous workshop. Students will receive guidance on how to highlight the patterns and forms.
