Introduction to Cyanotypes

Sunday, May 26; 11am - 3pm

Instructor: Jenny Rosenberg

Simple chemicals, paper, sunshine, and water are all that is needed to create photographic blueprints known as cyanotypes. Explore the process of collaborating with the sun to render objects as white silhouettes against a vivid blue background.

You will learn about the history of cyanotypes as well as how contemporary artists have embraced this beautiful form of art. All the basics of how to make cyanotypes will be covered: mixing and applying chemicals, selecting and positioning items for compositions, determining exposure times, and processing exposed paper for peak shades of blue.

Experimentation and being joyfully creative are strongly encouraged! Everything you need will be provided. Feel free to bring additional objects you would like to capture in this fun photographic form.

Instructor: Jenny Rosenberg received her M.F.A. in photography, California College of the Arts, San Francisco, and her B.A. in studio art, UC, Davis. She is currently a visual arts teacher at Marin Country Day School and teaches a yearly cyanotype workshop at BAMPFA, Berkeley. She has also taught at Marin Academy and California College of the Arts, Oakland.

Additional $35 materials fee paid to instructor (all materials are provided)
