The book becomes art at MarinMOCA’s 11th Annual Altered Book Exhibit and Fundraiser. Marin’s most unique art show features 150 original book art objects, crafted by artists who combine provocative messages with inventive technique. Each year, MarinMOCA supporters buy the artworks using a silent bidding process which requires multiple visits to the museum. This year, MarinMOCA is making it easier and safer for fans to buy the “book” they love. Each artwork will have a “Buy it now” price, enabling the customer to purchase and take the artwork home immediately. Also, up to 10 people at a time will be admitted to the gallery to promote social distancing.
Donna Seager, owner of Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, and Mary Austin, Co-Founder of the San Francisco Center for the Book, will select the award-winners, and give a livestreamed Art Talk at 5pm on July 25. The exhibit lasts through August 29, and is open Wednesday through Sunday utilizing safety protocols recommended by the County. Art-lovers can collect an original Altered Book and support the museum in a safe, enjoyable way!
We hope to hold the Closing Party and Live Auction on August 29, 5pm - 8pm, dependent upon County regulations. MarinMOCA is extremely grateful for the artists who are donating their work. This event is MarinMOCA’s biggest fundraiser of the year and all proceeds from the auction support our exceptional exhibition and educational programs. The exhibit is free to the public.
Our $10,000 Challenge Grant will match winning bids dollar for dollar: This year MarinMOCA is pleased to announce that we have again received a $10,000 challenge grant from the Donald O. and Ronald R. Collins Fund of the Marin Community Foundation. The challenge grant will match winning bids dollar for dollar up to $10,000, effectively doubling each winning bid.
