Grace Seldner

I grew up in Woodstock, N.Y., where I pursued my passion for horses and art. I attended art school at New Yorks Art Students League , in both their summer location in Woodstock and their main headquarters in New York City. I studied under Robert Brackman, " considered the leading portrait artist of his time, and the illustrious Anatomy teacher Robert Hale. Realism over time lead to my true love, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. My "Cavalia" series, married my love of all things equestrian with art. Greatly influenced by the traveling tent show Cavalia where the beauty and agility of Cirrque du Soleil, is combined with the magic and majesty of the horse. I have produced some prints of the series. The prints available represent state of the art in pigmented print making. They are high definition, eight color prints of Archival quality and use the latest in pigment based inks, which significantly reduce fading, adding a longer life span to the print. They are printed on Somerset Velvet rag paper. Master printmaker ,Craig Kolb produces them. Each one is individually pencil signed and numbered.

I grew up back east, first in New Rochelle, and summering in Fire Island, then Florida and finally in Woodstock, N.Y. My mother was an artist and had heard that Woodstock was an artist colony. So, after her divorce she moved us there.. We both fell in love with the sweet little town. I spent all my teens there and met and married my first husband, a bass player with The Band. Rick Danko. We had two beautiful children together, Lisa, and Eli but our marriage did not last. After meeting my second husband, we all moved to Marin , including my precious baby Oliver. I quickly discovered The College of Marin Art Department and before long was spending my days there immersed in clay. Hand building sculptures and dabbling in bronze. I also was able to acquire an Arabian mare which lead to acquiring several Arabians over the years. I both showed and rode them. Living works of art. That is what Time Magazine wrote about Arabian horses. So beautiful. That was many many years ago and a couple of lifetimes. After being single for 30 years I finally met a man to share my life with. I'm now the proud owner of a tiny white poodle named Pierre. I adore him. We do agility together which in some ways reminds me of riding horses. Again, I am working with an animal, communicating, guiding him over jumps etc. Creating a beautiful harmony of movement. I also am able to garden , which I've always loved doing. Reaping what I sow. And I adore singing. Making music. I play a little piano and guitar and love to play and sing. And did I mention how I love to dance? if there's music playing I'm probably dancing. It used to drive my kids crazy. Oh well, you can't please everyone! So, at least please your self.
