I am a self-taught mosaic artist. My interest in mosaics began when I started collecting Italian micro mosaics from the 19th and 20th centuries. As I read about this ancient art form, I became fascinated by it.
In 2017, I started making mosaics after taking some classes by a local mosaic artist.
The inspiration for my first mosaic came from the movie “Coco,” an animated film that follows the Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico. I created a skull named Coco. This was the beginning of my first mosaic collection, which I named the “Day of the Dead Collection.” The collection has 10 pieces that represent skulls from different countries where I have travelled for work or pleasure.
I always enjoyed art as a viewer, not as a creator. Now I am having a great time making mosaics. When I sit at my studio at home and begin thinking about the next mosaic, time passes by quickly. I am curious and excited, I feel pure joy and in those moments I connect with the deeper parts of my soul. I know I have just opened the door to something new in my life that will only grow as time passes.
I decided to share my story and my art with viewers, just in case there are people like me who did not know they had a creative part inside themselves. It is never too late to start something new. I have learned it requires courage, humility and support from others. I hope to bring peace and enjoyment with my art!
