Ecoprinting - Exploring Backgrounds and Borders with Tannins

Ecoprinting - Exploring Backgrounds and Borders with Tannins

Saturday, October 5; 10am - 4pm

Instructor: Tracy Flanagan

Create one-of-a-kind artful botanical prints with upcycled linens and cottons

Using tannins, natural dyes, local foliage, heat, and water you will experiment with tannins to create interesting backgrounds and leaf designs on fabric and paper. Participants must have some prior experience with ecoprinting.

Learn to:

  • Collect foliage that will print on cloth and paper
  • Prepare paper and cloth for different artistic effects
  • Discover interactions between tannins and iron
  • Use tannins and leaves to create interesting outlines and color combinations
  • Upcycle linens

As a textile artist, writer, and physician, Tracy believes that hand marked fabric and cloth is ‘everyday art’ that can wrap and heal the body and spirit. Throughout her life she has rebirthed cloth with thread, color, and design, as quilts, garments, and fabric collage. Using natural dye products extracted from the earth and plants, she breathes new life into these designed cloths, transforming them into beautiful articles to be touched, worn, and gazed upon by their owners.

Fee: Members $150;  Non-members $175;  Additional $25 materials fee paid directly to instructor (includes fabrics, tannins, dyes, doweld, string, and various papers)

Where: Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, 781 Hamilton Parkway, Novato (building behind Beso Café)
