The Tree-Ring Self-Portrait Experience

Friday; June 6; 1:00pm - 4:30pm

Instructor: Stacey Kamp, LMFT, ATR-BC

Just like the rings of a tree tell the story of its resilience, growth, and transformation, your life is a collection of experiences that shape who you are. The Tree-Ring Self-Portrait is an art therapy directive that uses the natural growth patterns of tree rings as a framework for self-exploration. Instead of focusing on physical likeness, this method represents life experiences through concentric circles, with each ring symbolizing a different phase of personal history.

By mapping your life phases as concentric rings, you will explore your roots, celebrate your growth, and embrace the challenges that have strengthened you. Through color, texture, and personal symbols, this creative process fosters self-acceptance and emotional healing, offering an alternative to traditional self-portraiture for those who may find direct representation challenging.

Stacey Kamp is an Art Therapist in private practice and an adjunct professor at Dominican University's graduate programs. She is currently in the process of obtaining her Ph.D. in Art Therapy.
