On November 16, MarinMOCA opens “Uncovered,” an exhibition by artist members Beryl Miller and Kerith Lisi, two artists who share a similar intuitive approach to their art-making practice. Miller’s oil paintings and Lisi’s mixed media constructions, display an engaging affinity for each other. Color, shape and line interplay back and forth from one artwork to the next, creating a dynamic visual experience for viewers. This exhibit is free to the public.

Beryl’s imagery develops intuitively as she explores line, shape, color and space, staying with an idea until it feels finished. Each painting leads her in a new direction, and she revels in the process of letting the painting suggest the next mark. She states: “My work can mean different things to different viewers.”

Kerith disassembles vintage books, uncovering the beauty and patina of age that comes from years of handling.  Preparing the books is a meditative process that includes washing the book cover fabric, cutting into strips and pinning to dry on a clothesline in the sun. Without a plan on how to proceed, she begins to experiment - playing with color, value and shape, until  she’s found a dynamic composition.  The pieces are sewn into small patchworks, then joined together and hand-stitched into one piece that evokes an aerial view of a landscape.
