I frequently approach a painting through movement, using lines to satisfy inner impulses. Repetition and pressure create areas of intensity. Results of this physical approach are frequently chaotic needing well thought-out modifications to appease my inner critic. My inclination for a following painting is to layout a spacious expanse of one color and compose with relationships of color shapes. Lines invariably intrude upon the space warranting effort to keep them in check. This physical approach to painting and the constant challenge of abstract composition keep painting alive for me.
